Jamee Johnson case: Body camera video, report released in deadly Jacksonville officer-involved shooting

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — Body camera footage in the 2019 Jamee Johnson case was released to the public by the State Attorney’s Office for the first time Monday.

The State Attorney’s Office has recommended the shooting be deemed justifiable.

Johnson was shot and killed by a Jacksonville sheriff’s officer in December during a traffic stop.

His death sparked outrage and a call for transparency in releasing JSO body camera footage.

Some of the footage may be disturbing for viewers.

It begins with Officer Josue Garriga pulling Johnson over for not wearing a seatbelt. Johnson tells the officer he has a gun in the car – Johnson did not have a concealed carry permit.

Garriga asks Johnson to step out of his car. Eventually, Johnson dives into his car before a struggle, and then he is shot.

Body camera video captures a gun in the center console after the struggle.

Police said Johnson had four times the felony amount of marijuana in his car.

The shooting was recommended as justifiable by the State Attorney’s Office officer involved shooting review team.
