At least one group plans rally, march week of Republican National Convention

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — The City of Jacksonville will take center stage in 60 days when it hosts the Republican National Convention.

At least one group is already making plans to take part in a peaceful protest on Aug. 27, the day President Trump will accept the Republican presidential nomination.

Organizers for March on the RNC Jax applied for a permit from the city to hold a rally and march, but it hasn’t been processed.

According to the application, the group expects 10,000 people to participate.

Wells Todd, one of the organizers, said the main slogan is “We Can’t Breathe.”

Todd said they are in opposition of President Trump and the summer convention being held in Jacksonville. He said protesters plan to call for police accountability, equality, among other things.

“We want to send a clear message to the RNC that people are fed up,” Todd said.

The group said the event will start at the Duval County Courthouse with prominent speakers. From there, the demonstrators will march through Downtown Jacksonville and near the VyStar Veteran’s Memorial arena, which is just over a mile walk.
