JACKSONVILLE BEACH, Fla. — QUICK FACTS:
- Historically, Memorial Day is a holiday where Jacksonville Beach Ocean Rescue sees an increase in calls for service, according to the department prevention and training officer for Jacksonville Beach.
- Saturday and Sunday, Ocean Rescue lifeguards had more than 15 calls for service for the water, and well over 30 calls for service, non-water related.
- The First Alert Weather Team said there was a high rip current risk for the Northeast Florida area, meaning water conditions can be dangerous.
This #MemorialDay looks a little different for a number of reasons: social distancing/COVID-19, dangerous water conditions (high rip current risk, and rain. JAX Beach Ocean Rescue tells me over the weekend they had about 15 rescues this weekend @ActionNewsJax pic.twitter.com/niMsGFIpn9
