Police: Woman shot at home in north Jacksonville

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — The Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office is investigating a shooting that happened at a home in north Jacksonville.

WHAT WE KNOW:

  • Officers responded to a home in the area of 1200 Carthage Drive around 4:30 a.m. on Wednesday after a report of a shooting.
  • Police said a woman had been shot in the stomach area while inside the home by a man. Police said the pair know each other and share a home together. JSO said she was taken to the hospital and is expected to be OK.
  • The sheriff’s office told Action News Jax they had the alleged gunman in custody and there is no threat to the community. Action News Jax was in the area when officers appeared to release the man from a JSO patrol car hours later.
  • Two young children were at the house at the time of the shooting. They were not hurt. Action News Jax’s Meghan Moriarty spoke with a woman who says she and her fiance live at the house with the kids and said they also have a roommate. The woman told Moriarty that she was at work while her fiance was home with their roommate and the kids. She said he accidentally shot the roommate. The woman added that the roommate will be released later Wednesday from the hospital.
