Southside: Deadly shooting at Hometown Inn and Suites, police say

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — Just after midnight Tuesday, the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office responded to Hometown Inn and Suites on the Southside in reference to gunfire.

When investigators approached a guest room door on the third floor they immediately noticed signs of possible foul play. They had to force their way inside.

Once they got inside, investigators found an unidentified man with multiple gunshot wounds. They predicted that he is between 25 and 30 years old.

Jacksonville Fire Rescue arrived on the scene and pronounced the victim dead.

There were no witnesses and no suspect information, according to JSO.

Action News Jax crews counted at least five bullet holes in a third floor window.

One guest said they did not hear anything.

On Wednesday, the victim was identified as a 27-year-old by JSO.

Action News Jax also spoke with two employees who work nearby. They both said the hotel is problematic and attracts crime.

In the last month, there have been five crimes in the area, including burglary and assault, according to a JSO crime map.
