Tropical Storm Josephine forms in the Atlantic Ocean

11 a.m. Update: Tropical Storm Josephine formed in the Atlantic Ocean Thursday morning.

The National Hurricane Center says it is located about 975 miles east southeast of the northern Leeward Islands and wind speeds are 45 mph.

Meteorologist Alyssa Pejic says it is now the tenth named storm of the hurricane season.

“Typically we do not reach a “J” named storm until October 19th. This beats the 2005 record to “J,” Pejic said.
