Woman found dead in Moncrief home linked to suicide in Georgia

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — A woman found dead inside a Moncrief home was shot to death, according the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office.

Her death is being linked to a man’s suicide in Bainbridge, Georgia but JSO would not call the case a murder-suicide.

While police haven’t released the relationship between the two nor their identities, neighbors refer to the man and woman as a couple.

Felicia Smith moved into her new home on Carver Circle back in June.

She said her neighbors across the street were already there, but she knew they too had recently moved in.

“My mom she would sit here, and she would wave at them. The kids, very good kids,” said Smith.

According to neighbors at least four kids were often seen playing in the front yard.

“You never heard the mom yelling at them about anything,” said Smith.

Which is why Smith was shocked to see police activity at the home Wednesday.

JSO confirmed a woman in her 30s was found dead from a gunshot wound on the kitchen floor.

Her body was found after the Decatur County Sheriff’s Office in Georgia alerted JSO about a Jacksonville man found dead in the woods from a self-inflicted gunshot. A van located nearby was traced to the home on Carver Circle.

Another neighbor who didn’t want to be identified also expressed disbelief.

“I just couldn’t understand what they were going through. For him to go through that extreme, that’s an extreme,” said the neighbor.

Smith wishes the couple would’ve reached out to someone for help if they were going through tough times.

“I do yeah, because had that been the case you know I mean, I done been through it. I could kind of tell them ‘let’s do this or let’s do that’ or ‘try calling this number’,” said Smith.

The kids are staying with family in Georgia, according to the Decatur County Sheriff’s Office.
