FBI: Man arrested for child porn after raid

A Jacksonville sexual predator is behind bars after the FBI said they found pictures and videos of a young girl on his cellphone taken from a hidden camera inside her room.

Registered sexual predator, James Butler was arrested at his mother’s house Tuesday morning after the FBI served a search warrant. Butler is accused of having sexually explicit videos and pictures of a child on his cellphone.

“When I woke up this morning, the door was kicked in and the lock was destroyed,” the suspect’s brother, Jerry Butler, said.

Butler said he was inside the home, along with his brother’s family, when about a dozen FBI agents barged in armed with assault rifles.

“The entire time they kept saying, we are here to protect the children,” Butler said.

Butler said his mother’s home was ransacked and his brother, who just recently moved in the home, was arrested.

“Dead asleep, taken into custody immediately, sat down in the front yard,” Jerry Butler said.

Action News Jax obtained court documents that state  James Butler is accused of producing and attempting to produce child pornography.

According to the documents, the investigation started earlier this year and Butler’s former house on Old Kings Road in Northwest Jacksonville was also searched by the FBI in May.

“All the police cars were up and down the road,” neighbor, Lorine Higginbotham said.

Higginbotham lives near the home investigators said Butler once shared with six other sex offenders.

Higginbotham said she had been complaining to police for years about the home and said she was afraid to have her grandchildren visit.

“Every time they come to visit I have to keep them in the house, I can’t let them out in the yard,” Higginbotham said.

Investigators said Butler had at least one computer with pornographic content and sexually explicit pictures and videos were found on his phone that show a young girl and were taken from a hidden camera inside her room.

Butler has his next court date next Tuesday.
