• FHP: Woman on moped killed in hit-and-run in Clay County

    CLAY COUNTY, Fla. - A woman is dead following a hit-and-run crash in Clay County early Saturday morning, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.

    Troopers say at 2:20 a.m., a 45-year-old woman was traveling westbound on Sandridge Road on a Suzuki moped in front of another vehicle when she was hit.

    "Damage suggests the Suzuki was rear-ended and was left abandoned on scene," FHP stated in a traffic report.

    "The operator of the Suzuki was found on US-17 south of Village Square Parkway," troopers stated. 

    We asked  Sgt. Dylan Bryan of FHP why the woman was not found closer to the believed crash scene and received the following response: 

    "We are still trying to determine the causation of these events. The remains of the rider were located on the shoulder of US 17. It is unknown at this time how this occurred and what timeframe. We are following up on several items of information. Any additional information the public may provide would be greatly appreciated. Please call *FHP or remain anonymous with First Coast Crimestoppers for tips in the case."

    Troopers say the woman was wearing a helmet. She has not been identified at this time. 

    Officials believe the suspect vehicle is a small, black vehicle with front end damage.

    Another hit-and-run crash occurred Saturday morning in Duval County. Police say the pedestrian who was struck was badly hurt
