Flies and temperature abuse plague restaurants

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — Multiple restaurants deal with high-priority health violations in this week's Restaurant Report.

Health inspectors went to Whitey’s Fish Camp in Orange Park. A health inspector saw live flies in the kitchen and bar and issued a stop sale on grits, crab bisque and greens due to temperature abuse. Cigarettes were also found by inspectors in the food prep area, which a manager removed during the inspection. A follow-up inspection is needed.

At Kumo in Palatka, a health inspector saw live flies in the kitchen and issued a stop sale on garlic oil due to temperature abuse. Kumo couldn’t provide parasite destruction records for salmon served for sushi. A follow-up inspection is needed.

A health inspector at Mojo BBQ in St. Augustine issued a stop sale on eight items, including pulled pork, sweet potatoes and mac and cheese because of temperature issues. The inspector also noted three cold items served too hot and the smoked tomatoes were left on the prep line overnight and had to be thrown out.
