Florida Highway Patrol investigating deadly hit and run in Jacksonville

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — UPDATE: Troopers identified the man killed as David Adams, 55, of Yulee.

Police are asking anyone with information on the suspect vehicle to contact FHP at (904) 695-4000 or Crime Stoppers at 1-866-845-TIPS.

The Florida Highway Patrol reported a fatal hit and run involving a motorized bicycle on U.S. 17 just north of Lankford Avenue in Jacksonville around 9:30 p.m. Saturday.

The driver was pronounced dead on the scene and police are searching for an unknown truck that was involved in the crash, according to FHP. The victim was a 55-year-old man from Yulee.

An unknown black or navy blue truck was driving south on US Hwy 17 (Main Street) when it crashed into the motorized bicycle. The impact knocked the man off into the road. A white Dodge Ram then crashed into the motorized bicycle and driver.

The unknown truck left the scene heading south, and could possibly have damage to the front of the vehicle. Police are asking anyone with information on the suspect vehicle to contact FHP at (904) 695-4000 or Crime Stoppers at 1-866-845-TIPS.
