Brunswick: Restaurant chooses to keep dine-in area closed due to safety concerns

BRUNSWICK, Ga. — Many Georgia businesses like movie theaters and restaurants are opening back up again on Monday, but not everyone is on board.

“We’ve been really blessed all through this, nobody’s been sick, no family members or anybody in our Grandy’s family,” Al Crouch, an employee of 32 years, said.

The restaurant owners told me they just don’t have the space to offer safe distancing and they want to make sure their customers and staff stay safe.

Grandy’s said its curbside service and their drive-thru service will remain open while its dine-in service is closed. Right next door, Pizza Inn opened; its dining room for lunch.

Action News Jax told you on Friday when businesses like hair salons, barbershops, and tattoo parlors reopened with restrictions.

Restaurants that chose to open on Monday must follow strict guidelines. That includes keeping no more than 6 people per table, using rolled-up silverware, and no salad bar or buffet service.

Donna Taylor has been a local Grandy’s customer for 15 years.

She says she’s glad the 43-year-old local staple isn’t taking any chances.

“I think whatever each business owner decides is right for them that goes along with the guidelines that Georgia set up, I think they’re making the right decision,” Taylor said.

After all, it’s the employees and the food that keep her coming back for more.

“Their chicken fried, their fried shrimp. all of it’s good, breakfast items, I love it,” Taylor said.

Grandy’s says at this time it hasn’t set a date on when it’s going to reopen its dining areas.

For now, it will keep serving its customers safely at a distance, sanitizing everything and using masks and gloves.
