#EndtheStigma Toy Drive receives more than 230 new toys

SAINT SIMONS, GA. —

For the fourth year in a row, a local AIDS activist and author is working to bring Christmas cheer to local hospitalized children.

The #EndtheStigma Toy Drive” was held Saturday, December 5 at Golden Isles Olive Oil in Saint Simons, Georgia.

Kids who donated a new, unwrapped toy got the chance to meet Santa and the Grinch, and have a free breakfast of green eggs and ham.

There were more than 230 new toys donated during the event this year.

Organizer Derek “D-Rek” Canas contracted HIV from a blood transfusion he got as a baby, so he also uses the event to raise awareness about the disease.

The toys collected this year will go to kids being treated at the Southeast Georgia Health Systems, including Wolfson Children’s in Brunswick.
