Smith and Sheriff Darryl Daniels admitted to having a yearslong relationship that started when Daniels worked at the Duval County Jail. Smith was his subordinate.

Sheriff Daniels isn’t facing any charges, but the Florida Department of Law Enforcement said it’s reviewing information from both JSO and the Clay County Sheriff's Office.

Action News Jax asked Gov. Ron DeSantis if he believes Daniels is fit to serve Clay County.

"When I get information, I will look at it, and as you know, the governor has constitutional authority to deal with certain local officials, and countywide elected would be one, and there is certain things, if you fall into one of those, the governor has the power to take action,” DeSantis said.
