Green cards, wedding band stolen from Little Talbot Island beachgoers

The Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office is investigating reports that someone broke into at least six vehicles at Little Talbot Island State Park.

On Friday, 11 people reported their vehicles’ windows were shattered while they were at the beach.

Two green cards and a wedding band were among the items reported stolen.

Action News Jax saw park employees warning beachgoers in the parking lot on Monday.

Lorraine Wells was so spooked by the reported smash and grabs, she decided not to park there.

“We’re not going to stay right here. We’re going to get away where we can keep what we have, what belongs to us,” said Wells.

Princess Marquez and her family’s fun day at the beach came to an end on Friday when they found their van’s window smashed.

She reported to JSO that her purse, which had her green card inside, was stolen.

“I’m legal to be here, but it’s like I can’t show proof because now I have to get a replacement card. It’s hard. It’s kind of scary to go out because you never know what will happen,” said Marquez.

Another man told Action News Jax the wedding band he’d worn for 30 years was stolen out of his rental car.

He told JSO his bank notified him that his stolen credit card was used at Harveys Supermarket at 5909 University Boulevard West.

Although the officer who wrote the JSO report said he would follow up with Harveys for surveillance video, a Harveys spokesman told Action News Jax on Monday no law enforcement agency has contacted the store about it.

A JSO spokesperson has not responded to Action News Jax’s questions about why JSO did not request the surveillance video, according to Harveys.

A spokesperson at U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services said stolen green cards could be used for immigration fraud.
