Restaurant Report: Health inspectors find dozens of roaches at Little Caesars, Crafty Crab

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — In this week’s original Restaurant Report, Action News Jax's Ben Becker visited a Little Caesars Pizza location in Jacksonville after their recent health inspection.

Inspectors found the following at the restaurant located on University Boulevard near St. Augustine Road, causing them to temporarily close.

  • 30 live roaches
  • 10 dead roaches
  • A handwash sink not accessible for employee use

When Becker arrived at the restaurant, the door was locked and there was a sign posted saying the restaurant was closed by the state to protect the public’s health and safety, but soon after he arrived, someone came to the door.

When Becker asked to talk about the inspection, the man insisted on Becker leaving and closed the door.

Becker tried to speak with the man again, saying, “Sir, you had dozens of roaches,” but he would not come back outside to address the violations.

Elsewhere, Crafty Crab on 103rd Street near Harlow Boulevard was cited for:

  • 20 live roaches
  • 44 dead roaches
  • Live small flying insects in the kitchen

The restaurant was temporarily closed.

Inspectors say Kazu Sushi Burrito on South Ponce de Leon Boulevard near South Dixie Highway had:

  • Potentially hazardous food temperatures
  • An employee touching ready-to-eat food with their bare hands
  • A person in charge was unable to answer basic food code questions

The Krystal’s on Blanding Boulevard and 103rd Street was cited for:

  • Potentially hazardous food temperatures
  • An employee touching their face and hair then engaging in food prep
  • A mold-like substance in a soda dispenser
