Hearing: Preview proposed median modifications for the new Broward River Bridge Wednesday

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — Jacksonville residents will get a look at the proposed median modifications on U.S. 17/State Road 5/Main Street that will be required for the new Broward River Bridge, at a hearing this week.

The Florida Department of Transportation is proposing to close the median opening that’s just south of the current Broward River Bridge. “This median modification is necessary to accommodate a reduced median width required to minimize impacts to adjacent right-of-way and utilities as part of the Broward River Bridge Replacement Project,” FDOT stated.

FDOT will hold a public hearing on Wednesday, Oct. 21 from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m.

Residents have three options to attend the hearing:

  • Virtually at nflroads.com/VPH (recommended)
  • By phone at (562) 247-8422 (enter access code 940-757-003)
  • In person at the FDOT Urban Office Training Center located at 2198 Edison Avenue in Jacksonville

The FDOT staff and consultants will be available to answer any questions and hear comments.

This $11.5 million project is expected to begin in Summer 2021 with expected completion in late 2022.
