Family, friends, and football fans visiting Jacksonville to attend this year’s TaxSlayer Gator Bowl met at the Landing for a New Year’s Eve celebration downtown. People from across the country gathered to ring in 2019.
“I’m just from Atlanta and I’m here having a good time,” said attendee Ashley Smith.

“It’s going to be unforgettable, especially with him!” said Smith.
What a year... I moved from the Southern tip of Texas along the US-Mexico border to my home state, and began telling stories in #Jacksonville. So proud to work here and for @ActionNewsJax! Happy New Year! 🥳 @ActionNewsJax @WOKVNews pic.twitter.com/MnM0DG6T7x

Morgan responded jokingly, ‘I paid her $20 to say that!’
Live music echoing through the courtyard, kids playing, and dancing crowds, were evidence of the lighthearted atmosphere. Many eagerly awaited the fireworks display at midnight.
“The atmosphere’s awesome,” said Morgan. “The fireworks show is unbelievable!”
Dozens of JSO and JFRD personnel and vehicles were on hand, ready to respond in case of an emergency. The massive presence put many visitors at ease.

“They’re definitely making sure everyone’s safe and secure,” said Garrett Fogleman, an NC state student visiting Jacksonville for the TaxSlayer Gator Bowl. “Seems a little over the top but, whatever, we’ll take it!”
