Hurricane Florence: More volunteers, resources needed in North Carolina

Wilmington and its surrounding areas still have a long way to go for recovery from Hurricane Florence. Thousands of families are homeless because of mass evictions due to flooding and storm damage.
“We’re moving into a housing crisis stage,” said Nick Hiteshew, founder of Wilmington Response. “We’re only two months away from winter. A lot of people are living in tents or in flooded homes.”

Organizations like Wilmington Response are helping coordinate recovery efforts. More boots are needed on the ground right now to help people who are being evicted from their homes due to unsafe living conditions.
