"I can't thank them enough and neither can she": Friend of I-10 crash victim in search of heroes

A local woman recovering in the ICU is looking for the people who helped save her life following a rollover crash.

Friends and family of the victim tell Action News Jax reporter Courtney Cole they desperately want to say "Thank You."

Ja’net Bauer is expected to make a full recovery.

But all she’s been able to think about since she arrived at UF Health last Thursday, is finding the people who helped her survive.

"She could have no longer been here. It's very overwhelming,” said Samantha Walker.

Walker said she knew something was wrong when she received a phone call from a strange number -- last Thursday morning.

"I got a phone call, it was  around 9:50 a.m., 9:55 a.m…. A lady said there had been an accident on 10, and I had to get to the scene,” said Walker.

When she arrived, she saw FHP troopers and fire rescue surrounding Bauer's very badly damaged truck.

“Her head was laying outside the vehicle when she landed...and her head was pinned between the vehicle and the ground,” said Walker.

Sky Action News Jax captured the powerful impact of the crash including the cab of the truck that had to be cut open.

According to the FHP crash report, a rear tire on Bauer's car blew out, causing her to lose control of the car.

“There were a tremendous amount of people that stepped in to actually manually flip the vehicle over to get it off of her. Had it not been for these people, she wouldn't be here,” said Walker.

Bauer's cousin said her car rolled three times before landing upside down in the median.

"It overwhelms my heart that there was somebody, even though they may have been in hurry, on the way to work — and they stopped to help and make sure she was OK,” Walker told Cole.

Walker says they have managed to find two of the people who stepped into help so far, but they won't stop until they find everyone.

“I can't thank them, I owe them...I can't thank them enough and neither can she.”

Walker told Cole that Bauer didn’t suffer any injuries below her neck.

Trauma doctors said it’s nothing short of a miracle.

Bower is expected to undergo surgery on Thursday.
