If your mail-in ballot gets lost, the Jacksonville Supervisor of Elections has a possible solution

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — Election day in Duval County is almost two weeks away and if you plan to vote by mail, you have until Saturday to request a ballot.

Supervisor of Elections, Mike Hogan said it’s not unheard of for mail-in ballots to get lost.

“Yeah, it happens,” said Hogan.

A viewer reached out to Action News Jax because she and a few other neighbors in the Sandalwood area did not receive their mail-in ballots.

So, Action News Jax went to the Supervisor of Elections, to find a solution.

Action News Jax Alexus Cleavenger asked what happens if you never got one, and you requested one.

“If you didn’t receive your mail ballot you can vote still early or on election day, or you can call, and we’ll send you another group,” said Hogan.

According to the Supervisor of Elections website as of Tuesday, there were a little over 53,000 requested vote-by-mail ballots and as of Wednesday, over 34,000 were turned in.

Hogan said if the ballot went to the wrong person, the Supervisor of Elections Office was given the wrong address.

“We only use the address that the voter has given us,” said Hogan.

“How do we know that the ballot is for that person?” said Hogan. “We know who we sent the ballots to and so were looking for that return envelope to match up and it matches up and it’s the name, the names going to be right.”

Hogan said then they verify if the signature on the ballot matches the one on file.

“If the signature doesn’t match, we notify the voter and let them know that their signature is not accurate and there’s a way to cure it,” Hogan said.

If you didn’t receive your requested mail-in ballot, you have until this Saturday to request one, and if you miss that deadline, you can always vote in person at any early voting site or on election day, May 16.
