Inspectors find violations at Uncle Gene's Soul & Seafood Café, other Jacksonville restaurants

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — Your health and safety is the reason we go out every week to get you answers about the places you love to eat. In this week's original Restaurant Report, Action News Jax's Ben Becker tells you about violations that inspectors found at local restaurants.

Becker paid a visit to Uncle Gene's Soul & Seafood Café on Timuquana Road and Ortega Farms Boulevard, after state inspectors found the following:

  • 28 rodent droppings
  • Potentially hazardous food temperatures
  • Food stored on the floor

The restaurant was temporarily closed. Becker tried to discuss the report with an employee.

"Get out of here with that man. We were closed down and reopened, you have that in the paperwork?" the employee demanded.

Elsewhere, the Wok n Roll on San Jose Boulevard near Kori Road was cited for:

  • A cutting board that was soiled
  • Potentially hazardous food temperatures
  • An employee's personal items were stored with food

Inspectors say the Saucy Kitchen on Gate Parkway near Deerwood Campus Parkway had:

  • Raw animal food stored over ready-to-eat food
  • A wall soiled with accumulated grease
  • A hole in the kitchen wall

The Subway on San Jose Boulevard near Addie Lane was cited for:

  • Sanitizing solution not at the proper strength
  • Potentially hazardous food temperatures
  • No probe thermometer to measure temperature

All the restaurants mentioned have passed follow-up inspections.
