International Overdose Awareness Day: How you can get involved

Aug. 31 is International Overdose Awareness Day.

It’s a somber reminder of the lives lost each year due to overdoses.

On this day, organizations around the world provide education on where to safely store or dispose of medications, how to address an opioid addiction as well as free Narcan training, to save a life. In Duval County, you can sign up to receive such training and a free Narcan kit here.

There will also be a “Walk A Mile In Their Shoes #HonoredNotShamed” event taking place at 5 p.m. in Jacksonville at the Southbank Riverwalk located at 1001 Museum Circle. Attendees are encouraged to bring a poster of the face of their loss(es). For more information, click here.

For other events, resources or if you feel inclined to donate to the cause, visit https://www.overdoseday.com/.
