Investigators locate vehicle possibly involved in fatal Clay County hit-and-run

CLAY COUNTY, Fla. — The Florida Highway Patrol said it has located a vehicle that has damage consistent to suspected vehicle damage in a collision that killed the driver of a moped this weekend.

The woman killed was identified by FHP as Dayna Cogliser, who was found on US 17 and Village Square Parkway. Cogliser's family positively identified her to Action News Jax this weekend.

FHP found her moped on Sandridge Road at 2:20 a.m. Saturday. They believe it was rear-ended. Troopers are trying to piece together how her body ended up more than 8 miles away.

FHP said troopers attempted to serve a search warrant at a Clay County home on Sunday afternoon in connection with the possible vehicle involved in the case.

The homeowner refused to cooperate with investigators and the warrant "was executed by legal authority," FHP said.

Troopers found a dark colored 2017 Dodge Charger in the closed garage of the home.

"The vehicle had damage consistent to the suspected from the collision with the moped," FHP said in a news release.

The Charger was seized and will be transferred to the Florida Department of Law Enforcement to determine if it was involved in the crash.

The driver of the Charger has yet to be identified, FHP said.

Sean Young and his girlfriend along with another couple found Cogliser lying on the side of U.S. 17.

“I look down to the right and I see a vest bright yellow vest right as I see the vest, I see legs,” said Young.

He called out to the woman, but there was no response.

Young and another couple had stopped to help the woman and call 911.

“It’s really heartbreaking to walk up on something like that, first thing I thought about was my mom.” Young said.

Young wanted to open up about the night so Cogliser’s family knows she was not alone.

“She wasn’t alone, I promise you that I did everything I could.”

Family did not want to give comment at this time.
