JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — A local disabled veteran is taking the search for an organ donor into his own hands using a unique method.
Albert Tyner, 70, put a decal on his truck window that reads “I did my part. Now I need your help.”

It includes his phone number in hopes of finding a match.
“You can’t expect somebody to help you out if they don’t know you need help. You have to let them know. This is my way of letting somebody know I could use your help,” Tyner said.
He lost a kidney to cancer in 2000 and his other one shut down in 2016.
Tyner is on peritoneal dialysis, which he takes at home every night.
The Marine Corps veteran has been on the donor wait list for two-and-a-half years.

The average wait time is three to five years.
More than 113,000 people in the U.S. are on the national transplant list, as of January 2019. Of, those 83.4 percent need a kidney.
A new person is added to the waiting list every 10 minutes.
