McQueen was the Jacksonville Beach’s first-ever elected Black city councilwoman. She served from 1991 to 1994 and then again in 1998.

McQueen was quick to make an impact on the community she served, helping pass legislation to build the beach’s city hall and police headquarters while also being tough on crime.

A street was named after her in 2024.
