Jacksonville Beach police arrest attempted armed robbery suspect

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — The Jacksonville Beach Police Department arrested an attempted armed robbery suspect after swarming a Jax Beach neighborhood Sunday evening.

The attempted armed robbery occurred at the 8 till Late at 1375 3rd St. south around 5:25 p.m.

JBPD says a suspect entered the store and showed a handgun to an employee while demanding money. Police say the suspect was met with resistance and fled the store.

Police were able to locate the suspect a few blocks away shortly after he fled and blocked off the area of 5th Street and 16th Avenue South.

“They had their lights and rifles drawn, some of them,’ said David Redding.

Redding tells Action News Jax, that’s what he saw when he walked out of his house Sunday night.

“The police cars were kind of making a L form at the corner of the street here with their lights on. They said 'J.J., come out with your hands up!'” Redding said.

The suspect was taken into police custody without incident, according to JBPD.

There were no reported injuries to the victim or witnesses.

The suspect was charged and booked into jail. Police said they will release the suspects identity and more information on Monday.

JBPD says they are conducting a thorough investigation of the incident.
