Jacksonville firefighter faces meth charges

NASSAU COUNTY, Fla. — A fire captain with Jacksonville Fire & Rescue is facing drug charges.

Deputies in Nassau County arrested 48-year-old Joseph Acosta after a traffic stop on Highway 17 in Yulee Wednesday morning.

The arresting officer said he noticed beer cans in the back seat of Acosta's truck.

The officer searched the truck and found .4 grams of a crystal substance and a glass pipe in a backpack on the floorboard of the front passenger seat.

The items field tested positive for amphetamine.

Acosta faces charges of possession of crystal methamphetamine and possession of drug paraphernalia.  The deputy also cited Acosta for having an unsecured load.

Acosta is free on bond.

The arrest report indicates Acosta is employed by JFRD.  Action News has a request in to JFRD for a comment.
