Jacksonville mom failed to report child abuse, police say

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — A 24-year-old Jacksonville mother was arrested on nearly a dozen charges of sex crimes involving a child.

According to the report, the crimes Rachael Johnson is accused of happened between February and September 2017.

Johnson is facing one count of lewd and lascivious molestation, one count of child neglect, two counts of child pornography and six counts of promoting sexual activity with minors.

Neighbors told Action News Jax Johnson has two children, but they often saw her with other kids.

Joyce Tracey said she was shocked and disturbed when she learned of the arrest.

"I'd like to know what was going on," Tracey said. "I have my grandbabies and we're like kitty-cornered across the street from them."

Action News Jax obtained the arrest warrant that said the victim is less than the age of 12.

The warrant said Johnson had knowledge a child was being abused and failed to report it to law enforcement.

The document said in a text message to a friend, Johnson wrote, "I'm probably going to jail for not reporting it."
