Jacksonville mother killed had filed protection orders against boyfriend

A Jacksonville mother was killed after she was granted a temporary injunction against her boyfriend.

Action News Jax obtained a copy of the protective order Nekecheana Phillips filed Dec. 19.
Phillips said she got into an argument with her boyfriend, Eric Jackson, over a phone, according to the report.

In the report, Phillips said Jackson punched her in the head repeatedly, grabbed her by the neck, and put her in a chokehold.

According to the injunction, Phillips was able to escape out the back of the house and call her father, who’s a police officer.

Family said Jackson was serve the injunction Thursday.

The next day, police responded to a home on Hunt Street where they found Phillips dead.

JSO said Phillips had returned home to find Jackson hiding in her home waiting for her.

When Phillips saw Jackson, she ran back outside to get away from him, JSO said.

Detectives said Jackson shot Phillips in front of her children and family as they sat inside a car.

JSO said Jackson fled on foot but later turned himself in to police. He was charged with murder and burglary.

The couple were set to go to court Jan. 2 for a hearing on the temporary injunction.

Jackson’s next court date is set for Jan. 14.
