Local mothers claim they are being targeted by aggressive men while shopping

Several local moms are trying to warn others after they claim they were targeted by aggressive men while shopping.

Most recently, the men were spotted at River City Marketplace.

“It’s really crazy, the lengths these people are going to,” shopper Whitney Truex said.

Truex said she is trying to warn others about men driving around in a dark-colored Dodge Journey and approaching women to buy home theater systems out of their SUV.

“I feel like they think women, especially during the holidays, by themselves with their children are vulnerable,” Truex said.

She said they came up to her and her child while in the Lowe's parking lot in Camden County and when she said no, they got aggressive.

“The scariest thing was whenever he grabbed my arm, because I felt like I was violated, and I didn’t have any means of protection besides my hands,” Truex said.

She then posted to social media to make others aware. Multiple woman said the same thing happened to them in different shopping plazas.

“I had my children, so it was uncomfortable in a scary situation,” a woman said.

Recently another mother said she was approached at River City Marketplace. “It was an unsettling feeling, especially having a small baby,” shopper Anna Davis said.

She said she watched the men go up to someone else after she got them to leave her alone. “But she made a scene and was, like, not having it, and that’s when they drove off,” Davis said.

Now she has a message for other mothers who are out shopping during the holidays. “Don’t turn your back for a second, not even to tie your shoe,” Davis said.

The Camden County Sheriff’s Office said they are aware of the incidents and will be investigating. They want people to reach out to their local law enforcement if they see the men, and they warn the public to not buy products being sold out of vehicles.
