JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — Local students with a serious interest in music may soon receive a scholarship thanks to Michael Jackson.
The late King of Pop gifted $100,000 for music scholarships in Jacksonville following his concert here in 1984.
The city of Jacksonville said the money was put into a trust fund and hasn't been touched in more than three decades.
The fund has gained interest and is now valued at $173,600.

Under city ordinance, the scholarship must go to deserving children seriously interested in and actively pursuing the study of music.
The city said it can use an anticipated $5,500 of projected interest in the fiscal year for scholarships, which the Kids Hope Alliance will administer.
Action News Jax is working to learn when the city plans to start handing out scholarship dollars.
