Jacksonville native says Lyft driver held her hostage

A Jacksonville woman claims a Lyft driver tried kidnapping her and her friends in Daytona Beach.
Briana Martin tells Action News Jax the incident happened late Friday night.

She said the group requested a Lyft from a restaurant to Bethune Cookman University.

Martin claims the driver acted like he couldn’t find their destination and said he wanted to take them somewhere else instead. That’s when Martin said they knew something was wrong.

Martin said they made multiple pleas to get out of the man’s truck but he refused.

He only let them out when they called 911.

Action News Jax obtained the 911 call in which the riders can be heard asking the man to let them go several times.

Police in Daytona Beach said they are trying to track down the man to find out what his intentions were. He is described as being in his 50s or 60s, driving a black Ford truck.

Lyft sent Action News Jax a statement saying the driver’s actions were completely inappropriate and that he has since been fired.
