Home where teen was shot at Fourth of July party, was site of another shooting days earlier

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — An 18-year-old is recovering in a hospital after being shot in his hand during a Fourth of July party.

The home on Kona Avenue sat empty most of the day Friday. Those who showed up in the afternoon declined to comment on camera.

The teenager was the only person shot during what JSO described as an exchange of gunfire.

According to detectives, the shots were fired after several fights broke out at the party. A group of guests left and then came back with guns.

One neighbor said she heard the gunshots but thought they were Fourth of July fireworks and she said it wasn’t the first time she heard shots near that home.

A search on JSO’s crime mapping system showed an incident last Sunday. It’s described as a shooting into a home on the same block.

Another search showed 53 records of assault and weapons-related crimes within a half mile radius of Kona Avenue so far this year.

It’s unclear if Sunday'sincident is connected to the shooting that happened Independence Day.

Despite the recent shootings, some neighbors agreed that they haven't gotten used to this type of violence.

“Regarding safe or safety, actually there’s no safe place in the world,” Ismael said.

At last check, the teen was listed as a stable.

JSO has not yet released a description of the suspects.
