Jacksonville police investigating shooting death outside of Arlington 24-hour laundromat

The Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office is investigating a deadly shooting in Arlington.
It happened next to a day care, outside the 24hr Coin Laundry on the corner of Red Oaks Drive and Merrill Road.
JSO said they received a call just before 2 p.m. in reference to a person shot in the 6200 block of Merrill Road.
When JSO arrived, they found a male victim in his 20s, suffering from at least one gunshot wound.
The victim has not yet been identified by JSO.
He was pronounced dead at the scene.
Action News Jax reporter Courtney Cole spent hours on the scene speaking to people who live and work in the area.
Some of them told Cole shootings have become regular in this part of Arlington.
One employee told her he heard five or six pops, but he thought it could have been fireworks.
Melody Dillard told Cole she was on her way to pick her child up from school when she noticed all the police cars on the corner.
“It’s not normal to see things like this happening this close to home. This is the type of neighborhood where you can walk with your kids,” said Dillard.
It was a very active crime scene Tuesday afternoon. At least eight squad cars and four detectives were on the scene.
While the 24hr Coin Laundry is operating normally tonight, detectives are still talking to witnesses and reviewing surveillance video in the area.
Right now, JSO says they don’t know if the suspect and victim knew each other, or what circumstances led up to the shooting.
