Suspicious package found in mailroom at Jacksonville federal courthouse, no threat to general public

The Jacksonville Sheriff's Office was called Monday afternoon to investigate a reported suspicious package outside the U.S. Courthouse.

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — The Jacksonville Sheriff's Office was called Monday afternoon to investigate a reported suspicious package outside the U.S. Courthouse.

Hazmat crews also responded to 300 N. Hogan Street in downtown Jacksonville.

The FBI released the following statement, saying there was nothing that was found that was a threat to the general public:

"On Monday, December 2, law enforcement responded to a report of a suspicious package in the mailroom at the U.S. Courthouse on Hogan Street in Jacksonville. The materials will undergo additional laboratory testing, but field testing did not identify any threat to the general public ... Normal courthouse operations have now resumed. We appreciate the assistance of the US Marshals, Jacksonville Sheriff's Office, Jacksonville Fire & Rescue Department, Florida Department of Health, Florida Department of Law Enforcement, and DHS-Federal Protective Services."
