Jacksonville police still investigating after father killed in home, feet from children

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — Action News Jax is learning more about a man shot and killed in his Argyle Forest home Wednesday night. Police are still working to find out what exactly happened.

Neighbors said Scott Bowman was shot and killed after an argument inside his home on Macnaughton Drive.

“The kids came running up to the door, pounding on it,” neighbor Julie Wood said.

Wood opened her door late Wednesday night and found two small children crying for help.

“They were just terrified and just kept repeating, 'My dad, there’s blood everywhere,'” Wood said.

The 8- and 4-year-old told Wood their dad had been shot and was dead.

One neighbor said Bowman was more than a neighbor – he was a friend.

“I was heartbroken,” neighbor Jeff Wood said.

When the Jacksonville Sheriff's Office arrived Wednesday night, there was a man outside the home who told police he was involved in the shooting. A neighbor said he saw a man with blood on his shirt. Police say a woman was also inside the home. A neighbor said she’s the victim’s fiancee. The two were married before, divorced and recently got back together.

“They had their issues, you know, off and on,” Wood said.

Neighbors tell Action News Jax police have been called to the home before.

Action News Jax looked at Bowman’s criminal background and found he was arrested for domestic battery twice – but in both cases, the charges were dropped.

But neighbors like Jeff Wood said Bowman was a good man – and wouldn’t harm anyone.

“He’s a gentle guy, wouldn’t hurt anybody. Scott was my friend. I loved that dude to death,” Wood said.

As of right now, no arrests have been made.
