Jacksonville protesters line San Jose Blvd during rush hour

A crowd of people lined San Jose Boulevard in Mandarin during rush hour traffic Thursday to protest the resignation of Attorney General Jeff Sessions.

The president announced Wednesday that Matthew Whitaker would take over as acting Attorney General.

Action News Jax counted more than 100 people waving flags, chanting and holding signs demanding that Special Counsel Robert Mueller’s investigation continue.

More than a dozen Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office squad cars and a handful of fire rescue trucks parked nearby in case of an issue.

Several JSO officers also stood on the sidewalk with the protesters to ensure their safety, as well as drivers.

Hundreds of protests were scheduled simultaneously across the country.
