JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — The Jacksonville Sheriff's Office said a man and woman are on the run after a security guard at the High Score Arcade was killed on the job in a deadly armed robbery in Paxon around 2 a.m.

One neighbor who asked not to be identified for his protection, told Action News Jax he fears internet cafes are drawing crime to Jacksonville neighborhoods.

"All these people are being attracted to these places, because, money!" said the man.

New measures from the city of Jacksonville give legally operating internet cafes until Feb. 1, 2020, to get rid of simulated gambling machines or face penalties.

But the city isn't waiting until then to start cracking down on the businesses.

Today, Action News Jax investigator Ryan Nelson obtained new numbers on the City's efforts months before the deadline.

A city spokesperson said that, since inspections began, 25 internet cafes around Jacksonville were found operating without permits. Twelve of those businesses have been shut down.

Councilman Al Ferraro said he's considering a bill that would speed up enforcement on illegal gambling machines.

"These murders and shootings are not reducing," Ferraro told Nelson. "They're continually plaguing our neighborhoods. So, you know, we're looking at all different things right now."

The neighbor who asked not to be identified said he hopes the concerns of the community don't fall on deaf ears.

"Protect the citizens of Jacksonville, you know?" said the man. "And try to do something to stop so much massive killing going on."
