Jacksonville teenage cancer survivor receives surprise gift

A teenage cancer survivor learned dreams really do come true.

Action News Jax reporter Courtney Cole spoke to the teen about the surprise she received and how it marks the start of the next chapter of her life.

Isabelle Scott said she's been playing the harp for as long as she can remember.

"I grew up with it, and it just kind of became that natural thing for me to play,” said Scott.

As she got older, it turned into her passion.

“It was for me at the beginning of my teenager years to have something special that was mine to do,” Scott told Cole.

Action News Jax first introduced you to Scott back in 2018.

The 19-year-old, award-winning singer and harpist has plans to become a professional harpist and teacher.

But right in the middle of auditions in January 2018, she was diagnosed with acute myeloid leukemia.

That's when she was referred to the wish-granting organization called Dreams Come True Jacksonville. Her wish was to finally have a harp of her own.

“I never really knew when I would be able to get one,” said Scott.

That all changed on Tuesday, when she was invited to perform at an award ceremony for a local real estate firm.

Scott thought she was only coming to play a musical piece at University of North Florida, but she left with the gift of a lifetime: her own harp.

Dreams Come True and Berkshire Hathaway Homeservices Florida Network Realty didn't just give her any harp, but a Lyon & Healy 23 Harp.

“The fact that it was literally the harp that I wanted really made it extra special,” said Scott.

Scott is currently in remission.

She was excited to share she's been accepted to Converse College in South Carolina and will attend orientation on Feb. 1st.
