• Jacksonville toddler pulled from pond has critical injuries, according to JSO

    Updated:

Action News Jax reporter Russell Colburn is on the scene of a reported possible drowning.

The Jacksonville Sheriff's Office said a 2-year-old boy was pulled from a pond Wednesday afternoon.

Police said the toddler has a heart beat.

JSO confirmed what neighbors told Coburn at that scene  -- a child nearly drowned off Joandale Road on the Westside of Jacksonville.

JSO said the toddler has “very critical injuries.”

Police say the victim was home with family, when somehow the toddler got out of the house.

Police said family found child in retention pond, and that life-saving efforts by the family may have helped save the toddler.

Gina Fowler and her family live just across from where JSO says this happened.

“It’s super sad.  They’re a sweet family,” Fowler said.  “If they need anything, we’re here. We’re all family out here.”
