He had several gunshot wounds.

Officers said the woman knew Turner and had been a victim of domestic violence in the past.

Action News Jax Danielle Avitable learned it was the woman's ex-boyfriend. She bought the gun after he strangled and nearly beat her to death a year ago.

A police report said he strangled and hit her until she passed out.

When she regained consciousness, she walked to a neighbor's to call police, the report said. Turner followed her and hit her several times in the face when he found out she was calling the police, the report said.

The woman was interviewed by detectives Wednesday and released.

The investigating is ongoing, JSO said.
