The Jacksonville Zoo says tiger cub is a girl

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — It’s a girl! The Jacksonville Zoo and Gardens announced that its new tiger cub is a healthy female.

Veterinarians were able to confirm the gender of the critically-endangered Sumatran tiger cub during the first wellness check Monday morning.

The tiger cub is 19 inches, 7.5 pounds and has clear eyes and ears. Zoo officials say the mom is taking excellent care of the cub.

The cub was born on Nov. 19.

Visitors can try and catch a glimpse of the cub in the Lane of the Tiger exhibit at the zoo through the television monitor.
