JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — Have you received a call from someone threatening to disconnect your Jacksonville Electrical Authority service if you don't pay them within 30 minutes? If so, JEA says that is a scam.
According to the JEA, scammers are calling Jacksonville residents and businesses pretending to be JEA and claiming the customer is either behind on their utility payments or their utility meter needs replacement. The caller then demands the customer pay a large sum of money within 30 minutes or their service will be disconnected.
The scammer tells the JEA customer to visit a Winn-Dixie, CVS or Walgreens store and buy a MoneyPak card and provide them with the card information and PIN number.

JEA says do not listen or pay the caller. The company would never require a customer to purchase a prepaid debit card to pay a bill and will not send a notification one hour before disconnection.
"JEA customers who have delinquent accounts receive multiple notifications over the course of several weeks prior to disconnection," JEA stated.
If you receive one of these calls, please notify JEA at 904-665-6000.
