Deadly vehicle vs. bicycle crash on Beach Boulevard

UPDATE, 4/20/18: The Jacksonville Sheriff's Office has identified the bicyclist killed in the crash as 64-year-old William Leroy Weeks.

JSO said this is the 53rd traffic fatality in Duval County in 2018 and the third traffic fatality involving a bicycle in Duval County in 2018.

One person is dead following a vehicle versus bicycle crash on Beach Boulevard, according to the Jacksonville Sheriff's Office.

At approximately 6:40 a.m. Thursday, a bicyclist attempted to cross Beach Boulevard when he was struck by a vehicle traveling west on Beach Boulevard.At the time of the accident, eastbound traffic was stopped due to the red light at the intersection of Carmichael Drive. The bicyclist proceeded north across the intersection when he was struck by a Chevrolet Tahoe.

The driver of the Tahoe immediately applied his brakes and was struck by a Honda Civic that was traveling behind the Tahoe. The elderly couple in the vehicle reported minor injuries, but did not require being transported. Traffic homicide detectives arrived at the crash site and are investigating further. The driver of the Tahoe stayed at the scene and is cooperating with the investigation.

JSO said at this time drugs or alcohol do not appear to be a factor. ​​​​​

The Jacksonville Fire and Rescue Department says there is a crash with serious injuries at Beach Boulevard and Carmichael Avenue.

JFRD said the crash involves a crash and a bicycle.
