JFRD honors 22 firefighters lost in line of duty

The Jacksonville Fire and Rescue Department spent Thursday honoring 22 firefighters lost in the line of duty.

Hundreds of first responders walked one mile through Jacksonville’s downtown for the "Sea of Blue" memorial march.

Engineer Danny Feher said, “They’re gong due to an unfortunate event, so, it’s like losing that family member.”

Helmets honoring each fallen firefighter led the pack to the memorial where each name is engraved.
Alanna Hurlbert came out to show her support.

She said, “I think about what these people put on the line every single day. So, I think it’s important to be out here and show our support.”

JFRD members told Action News Jax they’re all aware of the risks that come with the job, but that doesn’t make the losses any easier.
