Nearly 50 firefighters responded to the home in Brentwood neighborhood, working to put out the flames from the first story to the roof.

“It’s in pretty bad shape. I’d say it’s going to be a complete loss,” JFRD spokesperson Eric Prosswimmer said.

Action News Jax was the first on scene at 4:30 a.m. Sunday morning.

Crews responded to a 911 call from a neighbor around 3:45 a.m.

Fortunately, no one was inside the home at the time but the Red Cross was called for one adult.

JFRD said their battle became defensive once the home was deemed unsafe for firefighters to be inside.

“It just became too involved in fire and was definitely not safe for our crews inside,” Prosswimmer said.

This house fire is the one of many crews have responded to not only in the last month, but just this week.

On Saturday, JFRD said crews responded to two chimney fires.

“Chimney fires are something; you got to keep and maintain your chimneys throughout the year,” Prosswimmer said.

In January alone, there have been more than 40 structure fires. Crews typically battle 30 a month.

“It’s been a busy month for us. We’ve had a lot of injuries, we’ve had too many fatalities,” Prosswimmer said.

The state fire marshal is now investigating the cause of the house fire.
