“He wreaked havoc on the community.” Jacksonville police announce arrest in dangerous crime spree

Jacksonville, Fla. — A young Jacksonville man is facing a long list of felony charges following a dangerous crime spree that police say wreaked havoc on the community last week.

Speaking live from JSO headquarters Tuesday, Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office Director Mike Bruno announced the arrest of Dontravious Adair, 21, who singlehandedly stole two luxury cars from separate dealerships, robbed two convenience stores and a VyStar Credit Union at gunpoint, and took officers on a tense police chase.

And those are just the CliffsNotes.

It’s got all the makings of an action-packed blockbuster hit except, Bruno said, “It’s not a movie. This is real life.”

On March 10, Adair’s crimes reportedly began at a car dealership on Blanding Boulevard with the theft of a black Mercedes.

Bruno said Adair drove the vehicle less than two miles before crashing the vehicle.

So he stole another.

Bruno said Adair then returned to the same area of Blanding Blvd. and stole another luxury vehicle, a white 2017 Lexus RC200T, from a different dealership.

Shortly after, investigators say Adair committed two armed robberies at separate Jacksonville convenience stores. During each of these crimes, Bruno said, both stores had multiple customers inside.

Bruno said the suspect then committed a “takeover style” robbery of VyStar.

In surveillance video shared by JSO, Adair can be seen entering the bank with a gun drawn. He then forces the security guard to the ground, disarming him, and demanding money.

Investigators say the suspect was in the bank for just 7 minutes before taking off with cash in the stolen Lexus.

Bruno said JSO officers were just seconds behind Adair when he left the bank and were quickly able to catch up to him.

Officers say Adair was driving in an extremely dangerous manner when he crossed the median into the eastbound lanes of 103rd Street and hit a truck head-on, injuring a young child and elderly adult. Both were transported to a nearby hospital for non-life-threatening injuries.

Upon crashing, a JSO officer can be seen on body cam footage colliding his patrol vehicle into the stolen Lexus to prevent the suspect from leaving the scene.

The suspect was taken into custody immediately following the crash.

Adair is charged with attempted murder of a law enforcement officer, two counts armed robbery, fleeing law enforcement, and reckless driving among other charges.
