JSO: Driver flees from scene of crash, causing traffic fatality

JACKSONVILLE, Fla — Reports from the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office state that at approximately 1:08 a.m. Saturday morning, a Hyundai Sonata was heading southbound on Lane Avenue near Hyde Grove Avenue when they rear-ended an unknown grey Chevrolet Malibu.

The driver of the Hyundai the fled the scene going southbound on Lane Avenue. JSO doesn’t believe anyone was injured from that first traffic crash.

However, the driver of the Hyundai continued to flee at a high rate of speed. About half a mile south, at the intersection of Lane Avenue and Mystic View Drive, the Hyundai collided again with another vehicle, a Toyota Corolla.

As a result of the crash, the driver of the Hyundai was pronounced deceased at the scene by the Jacksonville Fire and Rescue.

The driver of the Corolla was transported to a local hospital with minor injuries. The driver of the grey Malibu left the scene prior to police arrival.
