JSO investigates after graphic photos surfaced of baby with badly burned, blistered foot

The pictures were posted on Facebook Thursday night.

They're hard to look at but they show the severity of the baby's injuries.

The family tells Action News Jax they have hired an attorney.  Because of that, they didn’t want to be interviewed for this story.

Action News Jax was there as a JSO detective tried to speak with the family Friday afternoon at their home.

That detective said JSO saw the social media post and opened an investigation.

Action News Jax is not naming the family who made the post or the facility they say is involved because no one has been charged with a crime.

The father wrote, staff burnt his son's foot trying to perform a heel stick.

That’s a procedure in which a newborn’s heel is pricked to draw and collect blood.

As of Friday night, the post had about 900 reactions, more than 1,000 comments and more than 2,000 shares.

“This is sad,” said local mom, Leesha Archie.  “It’s really sad.”

Archie remembers when heel sticks were done on her son.

“When they would do it, it would hurt, he would cry, and as a new mom that’s kind of jarring,” Archie said.

Action News Jax called the facility where the family claims this happened.  A staff member told us they are familiar with this case and they are not commenting.

“I just hope that baby gets better though,” said local mom Dijon Jackson-Davis.  “That’s sad to see the baby like that.”
